Siddhartha was born in Kapilvastu… birds and animals.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सिद्धार्थ का जन्म कपिलवस्तु में हुआ था। उनके पिता का नाम राजा शुद्धोधन और माता का नाम रानी महामाया था।
वे एक सुंदर महल में रहते थे, लेकिन वहाँ खुश नहीं रहते थे। वे प्रतिदिन बगीचे में जाते और घंटों तक पेड़-पौधों, फूलों, पक्षियों और तितलियों को देखते रहते थे। उन्हें पक्षियों का मधुर संगीत बहुत पसंद था।
सोलह वर्ष की आयु में उन्होंने अपनी शिक्षा पूरी की और राजकुमारी यशोधरा से विवाह किया।
सिद्धार्थ पक्षियों, जानवरों और सभी मनुष्यों से बहुत प्रेम करते थे। लेकिन उनके चचेरे भाई देवदत्त बहुत घमंडी और क्रूर थे। उन्हें पशु-पक्षियों पर दया नहीं आती थी।

One day Siddhartha was walking… Give me my swan.
हिंदी अनुवाद
एक दिन सिद्धार्थ अपने चचेरे भाई देवदत्त के साथ बगीचे में घूम रहे थे। देवदत्त अपने साथ धनुष और तीर भी लाया था।
अचानक उसने एक उड़ते हुए हंस (Swan) को देखा और उस पर तीर चला दिया। तीर लगते ही हंस नीचे गिर पड़ा।
सिद्धार्थ तुरंत दौड़कर हंस के पास पहुँचे। उन्होंने उसे अपनी गोद में उठाया, तीर निकाला, घाव को साफ किया और उसे पानी पिलाया।
कुछ देर बाद देवदत्त वहाँ आया और बोला,
“वह हंस मुझे दे दो। मैंने उसे मारा है। वह मेरा है।”
सिद्धार्थ ने उत्तर दिया,
“तुमने इस सुंदर पक्षी को घायल किया है। तुम्हें पक्षियों और जानवरों पर दया करनी चाहिए। मैं इसे तुम्हें नहीं दूँगा क्योंकि मैंने इसकी जान बचाई है।”

हिंदी अनुवाद
देवदत्त राजा के पास शिकायत लेकर गया। सिद्धार्थ भी वहाँ पहुँचे।
राजा ने दोनों की बातें ध्यान से सुनीं।
फिर राजा ने अपना निर्णय सुनाया—
“देवदत्त, यह पक्षी तुम्हारा नहीं है क्योंकि तुमने इसे घायल किया है। यह सिद्धार्थ का है क्योंकि उसने इसकी जान बचाई है।”
इस प्रकार सिद्धार्थ की दया और करुणा की विजय हुई।
शिक्षा: जो जीवन बचाता है, वह जीवन लेने वाले से हमेशा महान होता है।
