Once there was a woodcutter… How will I earn for my family?
हिंदी अनुवाद
एक समय की बात है। एक गाँव में एक लकड़हारा रहता था। वह बहुत ईमानदार व्यक्ति था। एक दिन वह अपनी कुल्हाड़ी से लकड़ी काट रहा था। उस दिन बहुत गर्मी थी। उसे प्यास लगी, इसलिए वह नदी पर पानी पीने गया। तभी उसकी कुल्हाड़ी गलती से उसके हाथ से फिसलकर नदी में गिर गई। यह देखकर लकड़हारा रोने लगा।
(लकड़हारे के रोने की आवाज़ सुनकर नदी की देवी को उस पर दया आ गई और वे पानी से बाहर आईं।)
देवी : तुम क्यों रो रहे हो?
लकड़हारा : मेरी कुल्हाड़ी नदी में गिर गई है। अब मैं क्या करूँ? अपने परिवार का पालन-पोषण कैसे करूँ?

देवी फिर नदी में गईं और इस बार चाँदी की कुल्हाड़ी लेकर आईं।
देवी : क्या यह तुम्हारी कुल्हाड़ी है?
लकड़हारा : नहीं, यह चाँदी की कुल्हाड़ी है। मेरी कुल्हाड़ी लोहे की थी।
देवी तीसरी बार नदी में गईं और लोहे की कुल्हाड़ी लेकर आईं।
देवी : क्या यह तुम्हारी है?
लकड़हारा : जी हाँ, यही मेरी कुल्हाड़ी है।
