There were two friends in a forest, a mango tree and a banyan tree.

They talked to each other and enjoyed all day long.
वे आपस में बातें करते और सारा दिन आनंद से बिताते।

Every night lions and tigers used to sleep under them.
हर रात शेर और बाघ उनके नीचे सोते थे।

The mango tree used to hate animals.
आम का पेड़ जानवरों से नफरत करता था।

“I will drive them away, they roar loudly, and smell bad,” he said.
वह कहता, “मैं इन्हें भगा दूँगा, ये ज़ोर से दहाड़ते हैं और बदबू करते हैं।”

The banyan tree said, “Don’t be so rude.
बरगद ने कहा, “इतने रूखे मत बनो।

We trees and animals need each other. We must live in harmony and help each other.”
हम पेड़ों और जानवरों को एक-दूसरे की ज़रूरत है। हमें मिल-जुल कर रहना और एक-दूसरे की मदद करनी चाहिए।”

The mango tree was rigid. He was not ready to listen to him.
आम का पेड़ ज़िद्दी था। वह उसकी बात सुनने को तैयार नहीं था।

That night, the mango tree shook its branches and made loud noises.
उस रात आम के पेड़ ने अपनी शाखाएं हिलाईं और ज़ोर से आवाज़ें निकालीं।

The animals thought it was a demon and ran away.
जानवरों ने सोचा कि यह कोई राक्षस है और वे डरकर भाग गए।

The mango tree laughed and felt happy.
आम का पेड़ हँसा और खुश हुआ।

The next evening two woodcutters came to the forest.
अगली शाम दो लकड़हारे जंगल में आए।

They had axes in their hands.
उनके हाथों में कुल्हाड़ियाँ थीं।

They saw the big mango tree and became very happy.
उन्होंने बड़ा आम का पेड़ देखा और बहुत खुश हुए।

“Look what a big tree it is! There is no one here, neither man nor wild animals. So let’s cut the tree down.”
“देखो, कितना बड़ा पेड़ है! यहाँ कोई नहीं है, न आदमी न जानवर। तो चलो इसे काट डालते हैं।”

They began to cut the tree. The mango tree cried out in pain.
उन्होंने पेड़ काटना शुरू कर दिया। आम का पेड़ दर्द से चिल्लाया।

The banyan tree cried out for help, “Help! Help!”
बरगद का पेड़ मदद के लिए चिल्लाया, “बचाओ! बचाओ!”

His voice was heard by the wild animals.
जंगली जानवरों ने उसकी आवाज़ सुनी।

They rushed towards the banyan tree.
वे बरगद की ओर दौड़ पड़े।

The woodcutters saw the wild animals and ran away, leaving their axes behind.
लकड़हारे जानवरों को देखकर डर गए और अपनी कुल्हाड़ियाँ छोड़कर भाग गए।

Tears rolled down from the eyes of the mango tree.
आम के पेड़ की आँखों से आँसू बहने लगे।

He said, “You were right my dear friend. We need each other to be happy and safe.”
उसने कहा, “तुम सही थे मेरे प्यारे दोस्त। हमें एक-दूसरे की ज़रूरत है, खुश और सुरक्षित रहने के लिए।”

The wild animals said, “It’s only through caring and sharing, friendship is born.”
जानवरों ने कहा, “केवल देखभाल और बाँटने से ही दोस्ती जन्म लेती है।”

“If we do not help each other, we may fall in trouble,” said the banyan tree.
“अगर हम एक-दूसरे की मदद नहीं करेंगे, तो हम मुसीबत में पड़ सकते हैं,” बरगद के पेड़ ने कहा।
