Kunal was a careless boy.
कुनाल एक लापरवाह लड़का था।

He often did things carelessly.
वह अक्सर काम लापरवाही से करता था।

His parents always scolded him for his carelessness.
उसके माता-पिता हमेशा उसकी लापरवाही के लिए उसे डांटते थे।

One fine morning, he was very disturbed, as he could not find his pen.
एक सुंदर सुबह, वह बहुत परेशान था क्योंकि उसे अपनी पेन नहीं मिल रही थी।

He needed the pen to write his English test.
उसे अंग्रेजी की परीक्षा लिखने के लिए पेन चाहिए थी।

He searched for it everywhere but could not find it.
उसने उसे हर जगह ढूंढा लेकिन नहीं मिला।

As Kunal was getting late for his school, he hurried down the road to catch the bus to school.
कुनाल को स्कूल के लिए देर हो रही थी, इसलिए वह जल्दी से बस पकड़ने सड़क पर भागा।

He saw a large red coloured bus leaving the bus stop.
उसने देखा कि एक बड़ी लाल रंग की बस बस स्टॉप से निकल रही है।

He ran after it and jumped onto the bus.
वह उसके पीछे दौड़ा और बस में चढ़ गया।

🧓 (An old man in the bus speaks)

Old man: Don’t you know, trying to catch a running bus is a dangerous thing to do?
बूढ़ा आदमी: क्या तुम्हें नहीं पता कि चलती बस को पकड़ना खतरनाक होता है?

Kunal: I am in a hurry. I have a test today. I didn’t want to miss my test.
कुनाल: मुझे जल्दी है। आज मेरी परीक्षा है। मैं उसे छोड़ना नहीं चाहता था।

Old man: It’s better to miss a test than to miss the rest of your life.
बूढ़ा आदमी: परीक्षा छोड़ देना बेहतर है बजाय पूरी जिंदगी खोने के।

Kunal: Sorry sir, I’ll keep it in mind and follow it.
कुनाल: माफ कीजिए सर, मैं इसे याद रखूंगा और इसका पालन करूंगा।

The bus was crowded.
बस में भीड़ थी।

Kunal looked for his friends but no one was there.
कुनाल ने अपने दोस्तों को देखा लेकिन कोई नहीं था।

He found that he was on the wrong bus.
उसे पता चला कि वह गलत बस में है।

His face turned pale.
उसका चेहरा पीला पड़ गया।

He jumped off the moving bus.
वह चलती बस से कूद गया।

He landed with a bump on the road.
वह धड़ाम से सड़क पर गिरा।

A scooter was coming from behind. It stopped just a few inches away from him.
एक स्कूटर पीछे से आ रही थी। वह बस कुछ इंच दूर आकर रुकी।

🧕 (A woman on the scooter speaks)

Woman: Do you want to hurt yourself?
महिला: क्या तुम खुद को चोट पहुँचाना चाहते हो?

Kunal: No, ma’am. I am sorry. I am getting late for school.
कुनाल: नहीं मैम, माफ कीजिए। मुझे स्कूल के लिए देर हो रही है।

Woman: Does this mean you will jump off the bus? Don’t you know jumping off a moving bus is dangerous?
महिला: क्या इसका मतलब है कि तुम बस से कूद जाओगे? क्या तुम्हें नहीं पता कि चलती बस से कूदना खतरनाक होता है?

Kunal started crying loudly.
कुनाल ज़ोर-ज़ोर से रोने लगा।

He was badly injured. He told her the whole incident.
वह बुरी तरह घायल हो गया था। उसने महिला को पूरी घटना बताई।

She listened carefully.
महिला ने ध्यान से सुना।

Woman: Remember, it is always better to be ‘safe’ than ‘sorry’.
महिला: याद रखो, ‘सुरक्षित रहना’ हमेशा ‘पछताने’ से बेहतर होता है।

Kunal: What should I do ma’am? Will you please take me to the doctor?
कुनाल: मैं क्या करूं मैम? क्या आप मुझे डॉक्टर के पास ले चलेंगी?

Woman: Sure! I can’t leave you alone in such a situation.
महिला: ज़रूर! मैं तुम्हें इस हालत में अकेला नहीं छोड़ सकती।

Kunal: Thank you very much ma’am.
कुनाल: आपका बहुत बहुत धन्यवाद मैम।

✨ The woman recites a poem:

Never play on the road,
कभी सड़क पर मत खेलो,
Never run across,
कभी भाग कर सड़क पार मत करो,
Never walk in groups,
भीड़ में चलने से बचो,
Never break the traffic rules.
कभी ट्रैफिक नियम मत तोड़ो।

Never jump from a bus,
कभी बस से मत कूदो,
Never catch a running bus,
कभी चलती बस को मत पकड़ो,
Never put your head or hands out,
कभी अपना सिर या हाथ बाहर मत निकालो,
Never yell, scream or shout.
कभी चिल्लाओ मत, शोर मत मचाओ।

Doing this you’ll always be safe and sound,
अगर तुम ऐसा करोगे तो हमेशा सुरक्षित रहोगे,
Both you and everyone around.
तुम और तुम्हारे आस-पास के लोग भी।

Kunal had learnt a lesson.
कुनाल ने एक सबक सीखा।

He vowed never to be careless.
उसने कभी लापरवाही न करने की कसम खाई।

Better late than never.
देर से आना बेहतर है, बजाय कभी न आने के।
