Shubhi: Brother, what are you busy doing?
शुभि: भैया, आप क्या कर रहे हो?

Ritesh: Tomorrow, it is 15th August, our Independence Day, and I am making a National Flag.
रितेश: कल 15 अगस्त है, हमारा स्वतंत्रता दिवस, और मैं एक राष्ट्रीय ध्वज बना रहा हूँ।

Shubhi: Should I help you in making it?
शुभि: क्या मैं आपकी इसमें मदद करूँ?

Ritesh: Oh, yes, why not; please come. We will make it together. Do you know Shubhi, what do the three colours in the flag stand for?
रितेश: हाँ, क्यों नहीं? आओ, हम इसे मिलकर बनाएँगे। क्या तुम्हें पता है शुभि, हमारे झंडे के तीन रंगों का क्या अर्थ है?

Shubhi: I don’t know, brother. Can you tell me?
शुभि: नहीं भैया, क्या आप बता सकते हैं?

Ritesh: Saffron stands for sacrifice, white for peace and green for prosperity.
रितेश: केसरी रंग बलिदान का प्रतीक है, सफेद रंग शांति का, और हरा रंग समृद्धि का।

Shubhi: There is a blue wheel in the white stripe. What does it stand for?
शुभि: सफेद पट्टी में एक नीला चक्र होता है। वह किसका प्रतीक है?

Ritesh: It is the Ashok Chakra in the centre of the white stripe having 24 spokes. This represents the 24 precious hours of the day.
रितेश: यह अशोक चक्र है, जिसमें 24 तीलियाँ होती हैं। यह दिन के 24 अमूल्य घंटों का प्रतीक है।

Shubhi: What will you do with the flag tomorrow?
शुभि: कल आप इस झंडे के साथ क्या करोगे?

Ritesh: We are going to have a parade in the school. The National Flag will be hoisted and we will sing the National Anthem.
रितेश: स्कूल में परेड होगी। राष्ट्रीय ध्वज फहराया जाएगा और हम राष्ट्रगान गाएँगे।

Shubhi: What else will be done on this day?
शुभि: इस दिन और क्या किया जाएगा?

Ritesh: On this day we salute the heroic deeds of our freedom fighters. Gandhiji, Sardar Patel, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh and many others fought for many years to make India a free country.
रितेश: इस दिन हम अपने स्वतंत्रता सेनानियों के वीर कर्मों को सलाम करते हैं। गांधीजी, सरदार पटेल, सुभाष चंद्र बोस, भगत सिंह और कई अन्य लोगों ने भारत को आज़ाद कराने के लिए वर्षों तक संघर्ष किया।

Shubhi: Ritesh, are you taking part in any of the programmes?
शुभि: रितेश, क्या तुम किसी कार्यक्रम में भाग ले रहे हो?

Ritesh: Yes, I will deliver a speech.
रितेश: हाँ, मैं एक भाषण दूँगा।

Shubhi: What are you going to say in your speech?
शुभि: तुम अपने भाषण में क्या कहोगे?

Ritesh: I have written not only about the importance of Independence Day but also about our duties towards our nation.
रितेश: मैंने सिर्फ स्वतंत्रता दिवस के महत्व के बारे में नहीं लिखा, बल्कि हमारे देश के प्रति कर्तव्यों के बारे में भी लिखा है।

Shubhi: What are our duties towards the nation?
शुभि: हमारे देश के प्रति हमारे क्या कर्तव्य हैं?

Ritesh: To do good for the society.
रितेश: समाज के लिए अच्छा करना।

Shubhi: How can we do that?
शुभि: हम यह कैसे कर सकते हैं?

Ritesh: By helping others, maintaining cleanliness, planting trees, respecting elders and so on.
रितेश: दूसरों की मदद करके, सफाई बनाए रखकर, पेड़ लगाकर, बड़ों का सम्मान करके आदि।

Shubhi: It means everyone must do one’s bit to improve one’s surroundings.
शुभि: इसका मतलब है कि हर किसी को अपने आस-पास के वातावरण को बेहतर बनाने में योगदान देना चाहिए।

Ritesh: Yes Shubhi, if we all do a little, it will help our country.
रितेश: हाँ शुभि, अगर हम सभी थोड़ा-थोड़ा भी करें, तो यह हमारे देश के लिए मददगार होगा।

Shubhi: Brother, tomorrow I will give my old toys and clothes to the poor children.
शुभि: भैया, कल मैं अपने पुराने खिलौने और कपड़े गरीब बच्चों को दूँगी।

Ritesh: Very good Shubhi, this is also one of the ways to serve our country.
