Rakesh was very excited.
राकेश बहुत उत्साहित था।

It was his last day of exam.
यह उसका परीक्षा का आखिरी दिन था।

His vacation was about to begin.
उसकी छुट्टियाँ शुरू होने वाली थीं।

He walked back home cheerfully.
वह खुशी-खुशी घर की ओर चला।

As soon as he reached home he put his bag in a corner, and ran towards his brother’s room.
जैसे ही वह घर पहुँचा, उसने अपना बैग एक कोने में रखा और अपने भाई के कमरे की ओर दौड़ पड़ा।

“Rakesh, don’t disturb your brother. His exams are not yet over,” his mother said.
“राकेश, अपने भाई को परेशान मत करो। उसकी परीक्षा अभी खत्म नहीं हुई है,” माँ ने कहा।

Rakesh returned to his room sadly.
राकेश उदास होकर अपने कमरे में लौट आया।

His brother Mukesh was preparing for the board exams.
उसका भाई मुकेश बोर्ड की परीक्षा की तैयारी कर रहा था।

His parents did not want Mukesh to be disturbed.
उसके माता-पिता नहीं चाहते थे कि मुकेश परेशान हो।

A little later his mother called out, “Rakesh?”
कुछ देर बाद उसकी माँ ने आवाज़ लगाई, “राकेश?”

“Yes, mother” he answered and rushed to her room.
“जी माँ,” उसने जवाब दिया और उनके कमरे में भागा।

“What is it mother?” he asked curiously.
“क्या बात है माँ?” उसने उत्सुकता से पूछा।

“The table lamp in Mukesh’s room is not working. He needs it. Go and call the electrician,” she said.
“मुकेश के कमरे का टेबल लैंप काम नहीं कर रहा है। उसे इसकी ज़रूरत है। जाकर बिजली वाले को बुला लाओ,” माँ ने कहा।

“Mother, can’t Mukesh fix it himself? He is so good at it,” Rakesh said.
“माँ, क्या मुकेश इसे खुद नहीं ठीक कर सकता? वह इसमें बहुत अच्छा है,” राकेश ने कहा।

“Don’t argue Rakesh. Do as you are told,” she said sternly.
“बहस मत करो राकेश। जैसा कहा है वैसा करो,” माँ ने सख़्ती से कहा।

Overhearing this conversation, Mukesh came out and said, “Oh! Mother, please let me try. It will not take more than half an hour.”
यह बातचीत सुनकर मुकेश बाहर आया और बोला, “ओह! माँ, मुझे कोशिश करने दीजिए। इसमें आधे घंटे से ज़्यादा नहीं लगेगा।”

“No, don’t waste your time. Go and study,” she said firmly.
“नहीं, अपना समय बर्बाद मत करो। जाकर पढ़ाई करो,” माँ ने दृढ़ता से कहा।

Quietly, Mukesh returned to his room but could not concentrate on his studies.
चुपचाप मुकेश अपने कमरे में लौट गया, लेकिन पढ़ाई पर ध्यान नहीं लगा सका।

He was eager to use his electrical tool kit.
वह अपना इलेक्ट्रिकल टूल किट इस्तेमाल करने के लिए उत्सुक था।

Mukesh had selected each tool with utmost care.
मुकेश ने हर औज़ार को बहुत ध्यान से चुना था।

He kept looking at it.
वह उसे देखता रहा।

He could not control himself and finally got up to fix the lamp.
वह खुद को रोक नहीं सका और आखिरकार लैंप ठीक करने के लिए उठ गया।

By the time Rakesh returned, Mukesh had already repaired the lamp.
जब तक राकेश लौटा, मुकेश लैंप पहले ही ठीक कर चुका था।

“Wow! Mukesh you are brilliant. I knew you would be able to do it,” exclaimed Rakesh.
“वाह! मुकेश, तुम कमाल हो। मुझे पता था कि तुम यह कर सकते हो,” राकेश ने कहा।

“Sorry for the trouble Mr. Yadav, the work is already done,” said the mother to the electrician.
“कष्ट के लिए माफ़ कीजिए, यादव जी, काम पहले ही हो गया है,” माँ ने बिजली वाले से कहा।

“I am sure Mukesh must have done it. You already have an expert electrician at home,” Mr. Yadav said and left with a smile.
“मुझे यक़ीन है कि यह मुकेश ने किया होगा। आपके घर में तो पहले से ही एक माहिर बिजली वाला है,” यादव जी ने मुस्कुराते हुए कहा और चले गए।

“Now stop wasting your time, and get back to your studies,” mother told Mukesh.
“अब समय बर्बाद करना बंद करो और पढ़ाई में लग जाओ,” माँ ने मुकेश से कहा।

On the day of the announcement of results, Mukesh went to school with his parents.
परिणाम घोषित होने के दिन, मुकेश अपने माता-पिता के साथ स्कूल गया।

Mukesh had topped his class.
मुकेश अपनी कक्षा में प्रथम आया था।

Mother : Now it will be easy for you to gain admission in a good college.
माँ : अब तुम्हें किसी अच्छे कॉलेज में प्रवेश लेना आसान होगा।

Mukesh : Mother, I don’t want to go to a college. Father, I want to join a course that can help me to take up my hobby as my profession.
मुकेश : माँ, मैं कॉलेज नहीं जाना चाहता। पिताजी, मैं ऐसा कोर्स करना चाहता हूँ जिससे मैं अपने शौक़ को अपना पेशा बना सकूँ।

The next day he went to the Technical Training Institute with his father.
अगले दिन वह पिताजी के साथ तकनीकी प्रशिक्षण संस्थान गया।

There he gained admission in the course of his choice.
वहाँ उसे अपनी पसंद के कोर्स में प्रवेश मिल गया।

(A couple of years later…)
(कुछ साल बाद…)

Everyone looked cheerful as they walked out of the house.
घर से बाहर निकलते हुए सभी प्रसन्न दिख रहे थे।

Mukesh had set up a new shop and they were going for its inauguration.
मुकेश ने एक नई दुकान खोली थी और वे उसके उद्घाटन के लिए जा रहे थे।

At the inaugural ceremony, Mukesh asked Rakesh to come forward and cut the ribbon.
उद्घाटन समारोह में, मुकेश ने राकेश को आगे बुलाकर फीता काटने के लिए कहा।

Everyone clapped and wished Mukesh good luck.
सभी ने ताली बजाई और मुकेश को शुभकामनाएँ दीं।
