Assam भारत के उत्तर-पूर्वी भाग में स्थित एक राज्य है। यह पूर्वी हिमालय की तलहटी के ठीक नीचे स्थित है। इसके चारों ओर Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura और Meghalaya राज्य हैं। Assam के साथ ये राज्य ‘Seven Sisters’ के नाम से जाने जाते हैं। Assam की राजधानी Dispur है।

Assam प्राकृतिक सुंदरता से भरपूर है। यहाँ नीली पहाड़ियाँ, घने जंगल, विभिन्न प्रकार के पेड़-पौधे और जीव-जंतु, बड़ी नदियाँ तथा उपजाऊ घाटियाँ हैं। Assam भारत में दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा tea growing state बताया गया है। महान Brahmaputra River Assam से होकर बहती है।

यहाँ के लोगों का मुख्य व्यवसाय कृषि है। चावल, फल, जूट, गन्ना और चाय यहाँ की प्रमुख कृषि उपज हैं। राज्य में देश के कुल चाय उत्पादन का लगभग आधा उत्पादन होता है। Assam तेल, गैस, कोयला और चूना-पत्थर जैसे प्राकृतिक संसाधनों से भी समृद्ध है। यहाँ pottery, terracotta work, brass craft, jewellery making, bamboo craft, silk and cotton weaving तथा wood craft जैसे पारंपरिक काम भी किए जाते हैं।
