Chandra Shekhar Azad, popularly known as Azad, was one of the most fearless and greatest freedom fighters of India.
चन्द्रशेखर आज़ाद, जिन्हें लोकप्रिय रूप से ‘आज़ाद’ कहा जाता है, भारत के सबसे निडर और महान स्वतंत्रता सेनानियों में से एक थे।

He, son of Pandit Sita Ram Tiwari and Jagrani Devi, was born on 23rd July 1906, in village Bhavra in Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh.
वे पंडित सीताराम तिवारी और जगरानी देवी के पुत्र थे, जिनका जन्म 23 जुलाई 1906 को मध्य प्रदेश के झाबुआ ज़िले के भावऱा गाँव में हुआ था।

He received his early education in Bhavra.
उन्होंने अपनी प्रारम्भिक शिक्षा भावऱा में प्राप्त की।

For education he went to the Sanskrit Pathshala at Varanasi.
शिक्षा के लिए वे वाराणसी के संस्कृत पाठशाला में गए।

He was a great worshipper of Lord Hanuman.
वे भगवान हनुमान के बड़े भक्त थे।

Once he disguised himself as a priest in a Hanuman temple to escape from the clutches of the British police.
एक बार उन्होंने ब्रिटिश पुलिस के चंगुल से बचने के लिए हनुमान मंदिर में एक पुजारी का वेश धारण किया।

Young Chandra Shekhar was attracted by the non-violent, non-cooperation movement of 1920-21 under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi.
युवा चन्द्रशेखर महात्मा गांधी के नेतृत्व में 1920-21 के अहिंसात्मक असहयोग आंदोलन से आकर्षित हुए।

He joined the movement and was arrested and produced before the magistrate.
उन्होंने इस आंदोलन में भाग लिया और गिरफ्तार होकर मजिस्ट्रेट के सामने पेश किए गए।

He gave his name as ‘Azad’ (free), his father’s name as ‘Swatantra’ (freedom) and his residence as ‘Prison’.
उन्होंने अपना नाम ‘आज़ाद’ (स्वतंत्र), पिता का नाम ‘स्वतंत्रता’ और निवास स्थान ‘जेल’ बताया।

This provoked the magistrate who sentenced him to fifteen lashes.
इससे मजिस्ट्रेट नाराज़ हो गया और उन्हें पंद्रह कोड़े मारने की सजा दी।

From then on he was known as Azad.
तब से वे ‘आज़ाद’ के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हो गए।

Azad’s patriotism and courage inspired others to join the freedom struggle.
आज़ाद के देशप्रेम और साहस ने दूसरों को स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में शामिल होने के लिए प्रेरित किया।

Chandra Shekhar was the mentor of Bhagat Singh, who was also a great freedom fighter.
चन्द्रशेखर भगत सिंह के गुरु थे, जो स्वयं भी एक महान स्वतंत्रता सेनानी थे।

Both Chandra Shekhar and Bhagat Singh actively participated in revolutionary activities.

He was deeply disturbed by the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar in 1919.

He also played a key role in the Kakori case.

Chandra Shekhar was a terror for the British Police.
चन्द्रशेखर ब्रिटिश पुलिस के लिए एक डर का कारण थे।

He was on their hit list and the British Police badly wanted to capture him dead or alive.
वे उनकी हिट लिस्ट में थे और ब्रिटिश पुलिस उन्हें जीवित या मृत पकड़ना चाहती थी।

On 27th February 1931, Chandra Shekhar Azad was at Alfred Park in Allahabad.
27 फरवरी 1931 को चन्द्रशेखर आज़ाद इलाहाबाद के एल्फ्रेड पार्क में थे।

He was betrayed by an informer to the British Police.
उन्हें एक मुखबिर ने ब्रिटिश पुलिस को धोखा देकर पकड़वाया।

The police surrounded the park and ordered Chandra Shekhar Azad to surrender.
पुलिस ने पार्क को घेर लिया और चन्द्रशेखर आज़ाद को आत्मसमर्पण करने का आदेश दिया।

Azad fought bravely and killed the policemen.
आज़ाद ने बहादुरी से लड़ते हुए कई पुलिसवालों को मार गिराया।

Finally, finding himself surrounded by the police, he shot himself.
अंत में, जब उन्होंने खुद को पुलिस से घिरा पाया, तो उन्होंने खुद को गोली मार ली।

Thus he kept his pledge of not being caught alive.
इस प्रकार उन्होंने जीवित न पकड़े जाने की अपनी प्रतिज्ञा निभाई।

He used to recite his favourite Hindi couplet.
वे अपनी पसंदीदा हिंदी पंक्तियाँ सुनाया करते थे—

Dushman ki goliyon ka hum samna karenge
Azad hee rahe hain, Azad hee rahenge
दुश्मन की गोलियों का हम सामना करेंगे
आज़ाद ही रहे हैं, आज़ाद ही रहेंगे
