Chandra Shekhar Azad… escape from the clutches of the British police.
हिंदी अनुवाद
चंद्रशेखर आज़ाद भारत के सबसे निर्भीक और महान स्वतंत्रता सेनानियों में से एक थे। उनका जन्म 23 जुलाई 1906 को भाबरा गाँव, झाबुआ जिला, मध्य प्रदेश में हुआ था।
उनके पिता का नाम पंडित सीताराम तिवारी और माता का नाम जगरानी देवी था।
उन्होंने प्रारम्भिक शिक्षा भाबरा में प्राप्त की तथा आगे की पढ़ाई के लिए वाराणसी की संस्कृत पाठशाला गए।
वे भगवान हनुमान के बड़े भक्त थे। एक बार अंग्रेज़ों से बचने के लिए उन्होंने हनुमान मंदिर में पुजारी का वेश धारण किया।

सन् 1920–21 में महात्मा गांधी के नेतृत्व में चल रहे असहयोग आंदोलन से चंद्रशेखर बहुत प्रभावित हुए और उसमें शामिल हो गए।
उन्हें गिरफ्तार करके मजिस्ट्रेट के सामने पेश किया गया।
जब उनसे नाम पूछा गया तो उन्होंने कहा—
- नाम: आज़ाद
- पिता का नाम: स्वतंत्र
- निवास स्थान: जेल
यह सुनकर मजिस्ट्रेट क्रोधित हो गया और उसे 15 कोड़ों की सज़ा दी।
तभी से वे ‘आज़ाद’ के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हो गए।

आज़ाद की देशभक्ति और साहस से अनेक युवक स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन में शामिल हुए।
वे भगत सिंह के मार्गदर्शक भी थे।
उन्होंने जलियांवाला बाग हत्याकांड के बाद अंग्रेज़ों के विरुद्ध क्रांतिकारी गतिविधियों में भाग लिया।
उन्होंने काकोरी कांड में भी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई।
अंग्रेज़ पुलिस उनसे बहुत डरती थी और उन्हें ज़िंदा या मुर्दा पकड़ना चाहती थी।

27 फरवरी 1931 को चंद्रशेखर आज़ाद इलाहाबाद के अल्फ्रेड पार्क में थे।
एक मुखबिर ने अंग्रेज़ों को उनकी सूचना दे दी।
अंग्रेज़ पुलिस ने पार्क को चारों ओर से घेर लिया और आत्मसमर्पण करने को कहा।
आज़ाद ने बहादुरी से लड़ते हुए कई पुलिसवालों को मार गिराया।
जब उन्हें लगा कि वे चारों ओर से घिर चुके हैं, तब उन्होंने स्वयं को गोली मार ली।
इस प्रकार उन्होंने अपना वचन निभाया कि वे कभी अंग्रेज़ों के हाथ ज़िंदा नहीं पकड़े जाएँगे।
उनका प्रसिद्ध दोहा था—
दुश्मन की गोलियों का हम सामना करेंगे,
आज़ाद ही रहे हैं, आज़ाद ही रहेंगे।
