You have rightly guessed that I have attended the inaugural function of ‘Water Conservation Programme’ in my village.
आपने सही अनुमान लगाया कि मैंने अपने गाँव में ‘जल संरक्षण कार्यक्रम’ के उद्घाटन समारोह में भाग लिया है।

The word conservation means to save something.
संरक्षण शब्द का मतलब है किसी चीज़ को बचाना।

It may be any natural resource like water, energy, soil, plants and animals.
यह कोई भी प्राकृतिक संसाधन हो सकता है, जैसे पानी, ऊर्जा, मिट्टी, पौधे और जानवर।

Conservation of water means conserving water in ponds, wells and in the fields to raise the level of ground water.
पानी का संरक्षण का मतलब है तालाबों, कुओं और खेतों में पानी को इकट्ठा करके भूजल स्तर को बढ़ाना।

We are living in a challenging era.
हम एक चुनौतीपूर्ण युग में जी रहे हैं।

Ruthless cutting of trees and destruction of forests have resulted in scanty rainfall.
पेड़ों की बेतहाशा कटाई और जंगलों का विनाश, कम वर्षा का कारण बना है।

This leads to the scarcity of water almost everywhere which is adversely affecting the cultivation of crops.
इससे लगभग हर जगह पानी की कमी हो रही है, जो फसलों की खेती पर नकारात्मक प्रभाव डाल रही है।

How can we be happy with thirsty soil?
सूखी प्यास से तड़पती मिट्टी के साथ हम कैसे खुश रह सकते हैं?

If the fields do not get plenty of water the production of food gets affected and the villagers start migrating towards cities.
यदि खेतों को पर्याप्त पानी नहीं मिलता तो खाद्यान्न उत्पादन प्रभावित होता है और गाँववाले शहरों की ओर पलायन करने लगते हैं।

The cities get overcrowded resulting in air and water pollution.
शहरों में भीड़ बढ़ने से वायु और जल प्रदूषण होता है।

The government has motivated all the sections of the society to come forward and save each and every drop of water.
सरकार ने समाज के सभी वर्गों को आगे आकर पानी की हर बूँद बचाने के लिए प्रेरित किया है।

We are the witness to the emptied and dried up rivers, ponds, wells and tubewells.
हम सूखी और खाली पड़ी नदियों, तालाबों, कुओं और नलकूपों के गवाह हैं।

We should not sit silently.
हमें चुपचाप नहीं बैठना चाहिए।

Under the ‘Water Conservation Programme’ we are trying to harvest rainwater at different levels.
‘जल संरक्षण कार्यक्रम’ के तहत हम अलग-अलग स्तरों पर वर्षा जल संचयन करने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं।

The farmers will be made to store water in their fields by building ‘Medh’ or ‘Bunds’ around their fields.
किसानों से कहा जाएगा कि वे अपने खेतों के चारों ओर ‘मेढ़’ या ‘बंध’ बनाकर पानी रोकें।

Similarly, water bodies like wells and ponds will be deepened and cleaned.
इसी तरह, कुएँ और तालाब जैसी जल-निकायों को गहरा और साफ किया जाएगा।

The old dams will be repaired and new dams will be constructed across the rivers so that we can conserve more water.
पुराने बाँधों की मरम्मत की जाएगी और नदियों पर नए बाँध बनाए जाएँगे ताकि अधिक पानी का संरक्षण किया जा सके।

What a wonderful scene it will be when our wells, ponds, and rivers will be full of water and the children will be seen swimming in the ponds of their village.
यह कितना अद्भुत दृश्य होगा जब हमारे कुएँ, तालाब और नदियाँ पानी से लबालब होंगी और बच्चे अपने गाँव के तालाबों में तैरते दिखेंगे।

The tubewells will automatically get recharged and will continue to give us water throughout the year.
नलकूप स्वतः रिचार्ज हो जाएँगे और पूरे साल हमें पानी देते रहेंगे।

I would like to mention that the government alone cannot do everything.
मैं यह कहना चाहूँगा कि केवल सरकार ही सब कुछ नहीं कर सकती।

Similarly, shouting slogans will not be of any help.
इसी तरह, केवल नारे लगाने से कोई फायदा नहीं होगा।

Water is essential for everybody.
पानी सबके लिए आवश्यक है।

So, everybody including we children should participate in the ‘Water Conservation Programme’.
इसलिए, हम बच्चों सहित सभी को ‘जल संरक्षण कार्यक्रम’ में भाग लेना चाहिए।

I have seen all the people voluntarily coming forward and working hand in hand for this noble cause.
मैंने देखा है कि सभी लोग स्वेच्छा से आगे आकर इस महान कार्य में मिलजुलकर काम कर रहे हैं।
